The Grade That Breaks Trucks
Everything about the Cajon is hard on equipment. Loaded rigs climb it hot and descend it on the brakes. Motorhomes overheat. And the recovery itself is complicated by grade, wind, and nowhere to set up.
Grade Breakdowns
Cooling systems, brakes, and drivelines give up on the Cajon more than anywhere else we cover. A loaded tractor on the shoulder mid-grade is a routine call for our Fontana branch, and so is a Class A motorhome that has boiled over — see RV towing.
Rollovers and Load Shifts
A rig that loses it on the descent doesn't just stop — it ends up on its side, often over the shoulder. That's rotator work, and the 50 and 75-ton machines roll from Fontana at the base of the grade. See rotator recovery.
Recovery Over the Side
The Cajon has embankments and drop-offs, and vehicles end up down them. A rotator can reach and lift from a stable position on the shoulder where a conventional wrecker simply cannot rig a pull.
Why the Fontana Yard Exists
This is the honest answer to why we put heavy iron at Fontana rather than spreading it thin: the 15, the Cajon, and the 10/15 junction generate more heavy recovery than anywhere else in Southern California. The trucks are parked where the work is.
Freight and Fleets
If your trucks run the Cajon regularly, a standing account means no negotiation at the roadside — see commercial fleet towing and semi truck towing.
Why Hadley
- We own every truck. Hadley drivers, Hadley equipment, Hadley dispatch. Not an app, not a dispatch network — your call is never farmed out to a stranger.
- Family-owned since 1952. Three generations, the same yards, the same phone numbers. See why that matters.
- We show up with the right iron. The truck we send is sized to the job, because a job worked with the wrong equipment costs more than it saves.
- Insurance approved. Covered tows are billed directly to the carrier and cost you nothing — see insurance-covered towing.
